Allyn to play softball at Butler

Former Mount Vernon softball player Alaina Allyn will continue her playing career at the next level. Allyn recently announced she will play softball for Butler University. With guidance from Next Level Fastpitch Academy's Brent Hawkins, Autumn Oehlstrom, and Mount Vernon softball coach Joe Rutledge. All three helped push Allyn to take her skills to the collegiate level.

Allyn was a four-year starter on the Lady Wildcat softball team. Last season, Allyn led Mount Vernon in nearly every hitting category. During her senior year last spring, Allyn led the Wildcats with a .474 batting average along with a .512 on-base percentage, 21 runs batted in, 29 runs scored, 36 hits, and eight doubles. Allyn also had two home runs, seven stolen bases, and a .658 slugging percentage.

In the pitcher's circle, Allyn led Mount Vernon in most if not all, pitching statistics as well. Last season, Allyn had a 2.24 earned run average in 17 appearances. She had a twelve and five record. Allyn threw 96.2 innings, allowing 96 hits, 58 runs, 31 earned runs, 19 walks, with 155 strikeouts on 1,617 pitches thrown. Her opponent batting average was .229.

Butler University is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. There mascot is the Bulldogs and they are a member of the Big East Conference. The Butler softball team is coached by Scott Hall. Last season, Butler's overall record was 25 wins and 21 losses. In conference play, the Lady Bulldogs had a 15-9 record.
