The Indiana High School Girls' Cross Country Regional round took place last Saturday morning from Crawford County High School. Twenty-five teams competed in the girls' event, and a total of 243 girls ran in this 3.1-mile race to either punch their ticket to the cross-country state finals or go home.

Jasper was the only local team to qualify for the state finals. There were many local runners that qualified for the state meet individually.  The State Finals are scheduled for this Saturday, October 31 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, Wabash Valley Family Sports Center, in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Gibson Southern and Evansville Mater Dei teams qualified for the regional along with Rowen Englebright, Lyla Hautman, and Gwyn Beuligmann of North Posey and Madison Cooper of Mount Vernon. To qualify for the state final, you had to be one of the top 15 individuals from non-advancing teams and the first 5 qualifying teams from each regional shall advance to the state finals.

On top of Jasper as a team qualifying for the state finals. Ruth Dickason of Mater Dei, Lucy Scherer of Gibson Southern, Rowen Englebright of North Posey each qualified for the state meet as one of the top fifteen individuals from non-advancing teams. Dickason placed eighth overall with a time of 19:07.70. Scherer finished twentieth overall with a time of 19:30.70 and Englebright placed twenty-first with a time of 19:31.10. Mater Dei as a team finished sixth and missed qualified for state as a squad by three points. Other local runners to qualify for state were Kylee Waninger and Eve Vinson both of Heritage Hills.

Floyd Central won the regional meet as a team with a low score of 51 points. The Highlanders had three runners place in the top ten individually. Columbus North, Jasper, Bloomington South, and Greenburg all qualified for the state finals taking their team. Lexi Kollbaum of Bloomington South was the overall winner of the girls' race with a time of 18:32.50.
