May leaves Michigan to coach Dallas Mavericks

Former Michigan basketball coach Dusty May is leaving the Wolverines to become the new head coach of the Dallas Mavericks. May helped guide the Wolverines to a national championship during the 2026 season in only his second season with Michigan. Over two seasons, May had a 64-13 record in Ann Arbor.

May will take over a Dallas Maverick team that is led by former Duke All-American Cooper Flagg, who just completed his rookie season. In his previous job, May led Florida Atlantic to back-to-back NCAA tournaments, including the 2023 Final Four. He had ruled out other college jobs in this offseason to include North Carolina. The Mavericks fired Jason Kidd after a 26-56 season last year.
