Final game of the regular season was played last Friday night for the Posey County Cup between the North Posey Vikings and Mount Vernon Wildcats. This regular season finale was played at North Posey High School. It was a packed house on both sides of the field with fans rooting for their teams. Both teams always step it up for this matchup each year for this big county rivalry.

The first quarter of this game was exciting with both schools each scoring three touchdowns. Mount Vernon running back Eastin Hall scored three times in the first period. Cade Mauck of North Posey also reached the end zone on three occasions with two rushing and one kick return score. At the end of the first quarter, North Posey led by the score 21-20. This game would have been tied in the first quarter but North Posey blocked a extra point kick by Mount Vernon.

North Posey put some distance between them and Mount Vernon in the second quarter scoring three touchdowns. Cade Mauck scored a touchdown on a two-yard run, Camden Clowers scored on a six-yard run, and Bret Buecher scored a touchdown on a 30-yard pass from Carter Schickel. At the end of the first half, North Posey led 42-20.

The Vikings received the ball to start the third quarter. North Posey stormed down the field on a five play, 75 yard drive that ended with Camden Clowers scoring a touchdown on a four yard run. Along with a good extra point kick by Ethan Ashby, that gave North Posey a 49-20 advantage with 9:24 remaining in the third quarter.

On the next Viking offensive drive, Carter Schickel threw a five yard pass to Camden Clowers to put North Posey up by the score of 56-20 with 4:03 left in the third period. That last touchdown put the game with a running clock for the remainder of this contest. Mount Vernon refused to back down. The Wildcats drove down the field with Brycen Riggan scoring a touchdown on a five yard run with two seconds left in the third quarter. At the end of the third quarter, North Posey led 56-26.

In the fourth quarter, many backup players and junior varsity members played the final period. No points were added to the scoreboard with the game ending by the final score of 56-26. North Posey reclaimed the Posey County Cup from Mount Vernon. Last year, on October 17, 2025, the Wildcats beat the Vikings 54-37 in a shootout. For the regular season, North Posey ended with eight wins and one loss. Mount Vernon's regular season record finished at two wins and seven losses.

Next up for both of these two football team is the IHSAA Sectional opening round. North Posey will stay at home on the first weekend and play against Perry Central. Mount Vernon goes on the road to take on Corydon Central.
